“We recognised and appreciated that Mother Nature herself is an ever evolving living entity, why would this be any different to our home garden.”

Alisha Tummons & Tarnia Hester

The posts on our pergola are the bearers we pulled out from one end of our decking.

A Little Background

Moving into our first home we had all manner of visions circling our imaginations of what we could achieve and as most visions begin, all grand and glorious, we first knew we needed to make a plan if we wanted any of them to come to fruition

Like many of our clients, budget, was a big contributing factor. We had just built our new home and once that was done, as you can imagine, excess money to invest into our garden wasn’t exactly lying around.

So we laid out a basic idea around how we wanted to experience our garden and how we would interact with it, including our loved ones and most importantly our four legged family members.

We had a few key factors that needed to be included into the new landscape and the biggest one was diversity through plants, especially Australian Native species.

With our key elements in mind we set out and built our new garden, little did we know this was going to be just one of our garden installation!

We have found over the years of having our hands in the earth, that our gardens grew as we evolved in our own lives. We recognised and appreciated that Mother Nature herself is an ever evolving living entity, why would this be any different to a home garden.

With this thought in mind, we sat down yet again and began our list of integral elements to be included into our next landscape.

This time round we wanted to feel even more engulfed by nature, so a greater emphasis was put into plant selection and creating larger gardens beds so that they flowed in and around the landscape. All while utilising the materials we already had in our possession and recycling anything we pulled up from the existing landscape.

At this point in time we have done two big constructional changes to our garden. These days we enjoy implementing the softer side of landscaping with a vast variety of Natives, Indigenous, Beneficial and Edible plants, soak pits, habitat areas and so on, creating an ecosystem for everyone.

With the experience we’ve had in our own garden and those created over the years our awareness has come solely back to regeneration, both within our everyday lives and through our gardens.

From the importance of soil health, reducing excess atmospheric carbon, creating micro climate ecosystems or self sustaining practices of growing our own food, all have top priority in our home garden.

We are excited to see what will become of our garden space as we continue to reside on our little suburban block and we look forward to sharing this with you, so here it goes work boots and all!

A Bit Different To The Usual Garden

You’ll notice this portfolio is a little different to the other gardens we have created.

We wanted to show case the vast differences in our home garden from when we first moved in and started out in the landscaping industry to now, over 15 years down the garden path.

As the years have passed our knowledge, appreciation and gratitude has only grown. We feel so fortunate to connect with the natural world on a daily basis, through the work we do and even more so to share what we’ve learnt with those who approach us to help in their own garden.

Little side note we will continue to update this portfolio so we can share with you the insights we stumble upon and the knowledge we discover, as we continue to connect and work with Nature.
